Measure Review strives to publish poetry that takes risks while working within clearly defined formal frameworks.

While we do not print free verse, we will consider publishing nonce forms that work within patterns of constraint that are not based in meter or rhyme, but it is your responsibility to successfully explain these patterns in your cover letter. If your formal framework is not immediately recognizable—or persuasively explained in your cover letter—your submission will be rejected outright.

We actively promote every single poem we publish to reach a wider audience of engaged readers who are interested in formal poetry.

Your $3.50 submission fee directly contributes to this outreach effort. However, if you are unable to pay this fee for any reason, we hope you will still submit to Measure Review using our "Hardship Poetry Submission" category. Please note that we enthusiastically consider every submission, whether or not a submission fee was paid.

Please send no more than five previously unpublished poems at a time in a single document.. You should clearly convey the formal framework of each poem in your cover letter to preclude all questions of authorial intent; while this is not required, it is strongly recommended. Include a brief biographical note in your cover letter. If you have previously contributed to Measure, in print or online, please let us know.
